School Consultations & Independent Evaluations

School Consultations

Dr. Schmidt works in partnership with schools, families and professionals to serve the best interests of students.  This includes collaborating with schools and families at IEP meetings, consulting with private school teams and attending multidisciplinary clinical/medical conferences.

Dr. Schmidt is available for follow up after initial evaluations to ensure programming, interventions, and therapies are guided by the findings and diagnoses made.  Dr. Schmidt participates in training of schools to program and teach in line with the student’s diagnoses and needs.  She helps families and schools put together teams of qualified professionals to support her clients.

Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)

Federal law states parents of a child with a suspected disability have the right to request an independent educational evaluation (IEE).  Dr. Schmidt is a qualified IEE evaluator and can be contracted to work in an independent, neutral role.  She will focus specially on the needs of the student being assessed.  Her specializations in clinical psychology, school psychology and neuropsychology enable her to make diagnoses that piece together a student’s educational, behavioral and medical needs so their team can understand and program for the while child at home and at school.  As part of the IEE, Dr. Schmidt participates in a school meeting to share her findings and recommendations.  She can be contracted for further follow up, progress monitoring or other consultation as needed by the team, particularly in complex or complicated cases

  • “Dr. Schmidt’s clinical expertise is evident. She explained her findings in great detail and made it easy to ask questions. When we met with our daughter’s school, Dr. Schmidt did an exceptional job relaying her findings.”

  • “Dr. Schmidt’s findings made so much senses after struggling to understand why our daughter was having difficulties in school despite her meeting all the public school benchmarks. It was like an “Ah!” moment for us and for her as well! Finally, someone was understanding what our child had been going through for several years.”

  • “I just wanted to tell you how impressed I was with your professionalism and tenacity in the IEP meeting to make sure our client’s specific needs were being met. But not only that, your evaluation was so incredibly excellent. Reading your report was very beneficial to me in my work with the family on PTSD and trauma.”

  • “Dr. Schmidt and I have worked together on a clinical team for over three years. She is very involved in the creation of treatment plans and setting treatment goals. Dr. Schmidt keeps goals achievable and measurable.”

  • “As a special education teacher, collaborating and working with Kara broadened my understanding of neuropsychological evaluations and various neurodevelopmental disorders. Kara's insights continue to shape my approach as our ongoing consultation extends to my cases as well as shared clients.”
